Is Eating Healthy Really More Expensive?

How often do you hear people say “eating healthy is too expensive?” In our world, we hear this all the time.  When it comes to living healthier and better many people believe that they have to make sacrifices like giving up the things they love or spending money on expensive foods and supplements. But it doesn’t have to be this way. It’s not about giving up the things you love, it’s about making them better by choosing better quality foods and ingredients or making more meals at home. It’s about being mindful of how often and how much you indulge and recognizing that you don’t get pleasure when you overdo things. You also don’t have to spend your hard working dollars on expensive foods, supplements, and vitamins.

At On Target Living we hear all sorts of limiting beliefs that can stand in the way of people seeing results and living their best self. Living healthier and better doesn’t have to be boring, time consuming, or expensive.

According to an analysis by the Harvard School of Public Health, it costs $1.50 more a day to eat a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats, and lean proteins than it does for a crappy diet filled of fast-food, processed junk, sugary drinks, and packaged items. In fact, some of the most nutritious foods are the most affordable such as in-season produce and bulk grains like oatmeal and quinoa.

The American Journal of Medicine documents that health care expenses were the most common cause of bankruptcy in the United States in 2007, accounting for 62% of US bankruptcies compared with 8% in 1981.  Learn more here.

With that being said, start to be more intuitive about what you are buying. Do you think that pricey multivitamin is going to be more powerful than fresh produce? Do you really need to buy expensive MCT oil to burn fat when you can get the same benefits from main-stream virgin coconut oil that is in it’s purest source?

But keep in mind that you get what you pay for and you are what you eat. And who wants to be cheap, processed, and unhealthy?

What if I told you that you could change your life with just $5.00 a day? First think about what $5.00 can get you. Maybe a fancy coffee drink at Starbucks, a craft beer at the bar, a bottle of cheap wine, or one of those fun fidget spinners.  We spend $5.00 each and everyday mindlessly. But what can these items really bring you long term? Most of these things provide instant gratification versus long-term health and happiness.

Over the years, our team at On Target Living has been on a hunt to find the most powerful superfoods that provide the most benefits. In this search, we have found that, just like calories are not created equal, superfoods are not created equal. For example; the processed fish oil gel tablet from your local convenience store will not be the same as a high quality fish oil sourced from the Norwegian Seas. And the closer you go to the real source, the more affordable and powerful these foods will be.

And the coolest part of all this is that we have discovered 3 of the most powerful superfoods that we know can change your life!

And want to know what the best part is? It costs you less than $5.00 a day to take all three. Plus, you will be reaping the benefits of these superfoods for years to come! We promise!

Your health is your greatest asset and it should be valued. After all, you only get one life and one body in this world. Make it count and remember that it’s not too expensive to eat healthy, it is too expensive to get sick. #mindfulliving

Plus, it’s not about what you’re eating. It’s about what you are missing. The body needs two big nutrients from a nutrition standpoint. Chlorophyll and Omega 3 fats. The two highest forms of chlorophyll are Wheatgrass and Spirulina/Chlorella. The most powerful source of Omega 3 fats is cod liver oil. Keep in mind that not all superfoods are created equal. It’s important to choose the best quality that will provide you with the most benefits. Which is what I do for a living–find and source the best products on the market. These are products that I trust, love, and use myself.

On Target Living Wheatgrass

This wheatgrass is the highest mineral source in the world with over 90 minerals, making it extremely alkaline. Wheatgrass is high in chlorophyll, which acts as a powerful detoxifier. Wheatgrass strengthens our cells, neutralizes environmental pollutants, aids digestion, helps with acid reflux, metabolism and weight-loss, decreases inflammation, and improves skin, hair and nails.

This particular wheatgrass comes in ice cube form. It is grown, cut, and flash frozen to provide you with the most nutrients. Because it is frozen right at it’s peak nutrition state–it will contain lots of live digestive enzymes helping to improve bloating, elimination, and absorption.

How To: Melt 2-5 wheatgrass ice cubes in a glass of water and drink first thing in the morning on an empty stomach. (A shot of energy!)

On Target Living Spirulina/Chlorella

This fresh water algae is super high in chlorophyll and helps to build the immune system, detoxify the body and improve digestion. Spirulina and chlorella are high in protein making it a great source for vegans or protein needs in general. It is also a good source of iodine need for a healthy thyroid and metabolism.

Spirulina/chlorella is an awesome superfood to take on the go especially when you aren’t able to take your wheatgrass. Ideally, you would want to take both wheatgrass and spirulina/chlorella since they do different things for the body (wheatgrass is the highest source of minerals, and spirulina/chlorella is especially great for the immune system). But, when you simply can’t do your wheatgrass or are on the go–double up on your spirulina/chlorella for that extra dose of greens and cleansing chlorophyll.

How To: Swallow (don’t chew) the tablets with water! Aim for 10-20 per day. It is best taken 15-20 minutes prior to eating.

Nordic Naturals Cod Liver Oil

Omega 3 fats like fish, cod liver oil, flaxseeds, chia seeds and nuts are essential for healthy hormonal balance, brain health, joint health, weight loss, metabolism. Omega 3 fats also play a role in relaxation, contributing to a good night’s sleep.

DHA and EPA is a specific kind of omega 3 that can only be found in fish. It is especially helpful for the brain and heart. Because we have limited access to fresh, wild caught fish, it is important to get a healthy dose of omega 3s from a high quality fish oil.

Nordic Naturals Orange Flavored Cod Liver Oil is the highest quality fish oil on the market, sourced right from the Norwegian Seas. It also actually tastes good with no fishy after taste or burping involved. The reason we recommend cod liver oil is the liver of the cod is naturally high in vitamin D, which is needed to absorb calcium.

How To: Take 1-2 Tablespoons per day (1500-3000 mg of EPA/DHA per day)

Think of this $5.00 as an investment to your greatest asset–your health. Make your health a priority and invest in you! The benefits are priceless! Bottom line is that it doesn’t have to cost you a fortune to live healthier and better.
